چکیده
The Actinomysec spp. are common saprophytic microorganisms which are found in the oral cavity, pharynx and palatine tonsils. The actinomycotic infections can be responsible for recurrent chronic tonsillitis. Data about presence of actinomycotic granules in tonsillar tissue and their influence clincal course are controversial in the available literarure sources. The presence study assesses the appearance of actinomycetes and the character of their invasivenes in the tonsillar tissue affilicted with chronic tonsillitis after tonsillectomy which were performed in Department of Otolaryngology Medical University of Lódź in 2005. The clinical manifestations and histopathological findings were retrospectively reviewed. Actinomycotic granules were presented in 21 cases. Most frequently in positive cases the granules were in crypts accompanied by accumulation of inflammatory mononuclear cells and bacteriae migration through the epithelium into the tonsillar tissue. There was no correlation between the clinical diagnosis and course and the presence of Actinomyces. Our results indicate that actinomycetes may play an active role in the etiology of chronic inflammatory of tonsillar tissue and the causative factor.

Relation between Actinomycosis and Histopathological and Clinical Features of the Palatine Tonsils: An Iranian Experience
BACKGROUND Actinomycosis of the tonsils has been reported in a variable percentage of tonsil specimens by other authors. This study determines the incidence of actinomyces in the palatine tonsil and evaluates the clinical diagnoses and histopathological features of tonsillectomy specimens. METHODS In a retrospective study, 204 patients who had undergone tonsillectomy for recurrent tonsillitis...
متن کاملN-acetyl-β-hexosaminidase in chronic tonsillitis and tonsillar hypertrophy.
BACKGROUND The concentration and specific activity of N-acetyl-β-hexosaminidase (HEX) in palatine tonsils with chronic tonsillitis and tonsillar hypertrophy give insight in tonsillar tissue remodeling and constitute a potential marker for diagnosis and treatment of chronic tonsillitis and tonsillar hypertrophy. AIM Determining the concentration and specific activity of N-acetyl-β-hexosaminida...
متن کاملA Pedunculated Hamartomatous Polyp of the Palatine Tonsil
Hamartomatous polyps of the palatine tonsil are very rare. They have been variously termed as a lymphangiectatic fibrous polyp, lipoma, pedunculated tonsil etc. in the English literature. We present here a case of hamartomatous polyp of the tonsil occurring in a 32-year-old male who presented with bilateral enlarged palatine tonsils with recurrent tonsillitis. Surgical excision showed two pa...
متن کاملComparative investigation of the culture of palatine tonsils by superficial and deep methods and investigation of microbial resistance in frequent tonsillitis patients referred for tonsillectomy
Introduction: The tonsils are part of the immune system and tonsillar infection is one of the most common causes of diseases, especially in children. Tonsillitis sometimes does not respond to empirical treatment and the presentation of recurrent tonsillitis eventually leads to tonsillectomy. The aim of this study was to determine and compare palatal tonsil culture by superficial and deep method...
متن کاملTonsillar Helicobacter pylori colonization in chronic tonsillitis: systematic review and meta-analysis.
IMPORTANCE Helicobacter pylori colonization contributes significantly to multiple disease states, but its role in the development of tonsillar infection is unclear. Understanding the causes of chronic tonsillitis is important in clinical decision making of this commonly treated disease. OBJECTIVE To assess the correlation between H pylori colonization of tonsillar tissue in chronic tonsilliti...
